Seafood output estimated at 737,000 tonnes in six months

Vietnam's seafood output is estimated at 737,000 tonnes for the first six months of the year, a year-on-year increase of 0.5 per cent, Vietnam News Agency reports.

Of that figure, 195,000 tonnes were exported earning USD 816 million, a year-on-year decrease of two per cent.

In 2002, the fisheries sector plans to net about 2.3 million tonnes of seafood and earn USD 2 billion.

The Fisheries Ministry has carried out measures to manage the use of antibiotics and chemical substances in seafood processing and aquaculture, actively control natural calamities, boost trade promotion and expand outlets, in a bid to meet export target and international seafood standard requirements.
