Galicia and Chile join
forces in aquaculture |
|
| A
recently signed agreement protocol, establishing terms for
aquaculture and resource management cooperation between
Galicia and Chile, provides opportunities for the exchange
of technology and information and for the development of
joint projects in aquaculture.
The agreement was signed by
Galicia's
Fisheries and Maritime Affairs
Councillor Enrique López Veiga and Roberto León Ramirez,
Executive Director of the
Chilean International Cooperation
Agency. |

According to a statement released by the Fisheries Council,
the Chilean delegation arrived in Galicia to obtain advice
on aquaculture and on the control of red tide and other
natural phenomena that affect fish farming. In these
scientific areas, Galician technologists have international
prestige.
The letter of intent will
allow the two organisations to exchange technology,
information and develop joint activities in aquaculture. It
will also lead to training and education opportunities for
sector professionals.
The Fisheries Council will
also be promoting the exchange of business and technology
expertise with Chilean aquaculturalists. It is anticipated
Galician technicians will travel to Chile in September to
take part in a seminar on aquaculture-related topics.
The Council of Fisheries and
Maritime Affairs is thus confirming its strategy to improve
the image of Galicia's fishing industry wherever it is
present. Other similar collaborative projects have been
signed with Namibia and with the Government of Argentina's
Chubut province. |
