Aquaculture relations
with Chile intensify |
|
|
A Chilean delegation,
led by MP Gabriel Asensio, is currently in Santiago
de Compostela, to discuss aquaculture collaboration
with Galicia.
Galician Fisheries
Councillor Enrique López Veiga held his first
meeting with Asensio on 26 June to put the
agreements made last week between the Galician and
Chilean governments into practice. These agreements
aim to foster collaboration in aquaculture matters
and resource management. |

The Chilean delegation also includes the Director of
Public Health, Loreta Lorca, Mayors from the Chiloé
region and experts in aquaculture management. The visit
is aimed at strengthening business contacts and opening
a discussion forum for technical questions. The
delegation will visit aquaculture centres and the
Council’s training and research centres, such as the
Marine Environment Control Centre and the Galician
Aquaculture Training Institute.
To thoroughly study the
fisheries and trade collaboration, López Veiga announced
that a Galician delegation would go to Chile in
September to make new contacts with the Chilean
fisheries authorities.
The Chileans have
reaffirmed their interest in collaborating in two
fields: research and red tide control – a particular
problem in Chiloé – and commercial collaboration with
Galicia for the development of the mussel sector and
aquaculture in general. |
