| The
Galician Fisheries Council is
allocating EUR 13 million this year to promote the development of
aquaculture in the region. This amount is similar to last year, but
this year the money will be used more for research and development (R+D)
and boosting productivity. Head
of the Council, Enrique López Veiga, said priority would be given to
projects for boosting production of species already cultivated in
Galicia, as mortality rates hinder production growth of certain
species, like turbot.
The government wants to use the money
to establish new production centres and boost existing productive
structure through the private sector. The recent handing over of the
Research Centre in Couso to the Galician Aquaculture Cluster
is included in this R+D plan. |
