IZMIR - Turkey meets 40
thousand tons of 120 thousand tons of consumption of
fish cultivated in farms in European Union (EU)countries.

Products Association Chairman Osman Tatar told a
correspondent on Sunday that around 600 thousand tons
of fish was caught in Turkish coasts last year.
Tatar said that there
was a decrease in fish caught in Turkey and measures
should be taken to prevent the decrease.
Fish Promotion Group
Chairman Beyhan Tosun said that around 83 thousand
tons of fish was cultivated in farms constructed in
the sea in Turkey.
Tosun noted that 38-40
thousand tons of gilt-head bream and sea bass were
exported to EU countries and stated that 45 thousand
tons of salmon trout was sent to EU.
Turkey was ranked the
second following Greece in countries selling the most
sea products to EU countries, Tosun added.
