National Conference for seafood women to be held in Tasmania

The Womens Industry Network Seafood Community (WINSC) will hold its AGM and National Conference in Hobart, Tasmania in September 2002.

WINSC is a non-profit independent organisation that links together women of the fishing and seafood industry from all around Australia.  WINSC’s aim is to foster a sense of pride, tradition and unity within women in the seafood industry and to develop and improve the skills, knowledge and attitudes of the seafood industry so that the industry can become more competitive and reach its full potential.

The annual conference promises to be a fantastic opportunity to meet women from right around Australia involved in many and varied sectors of the seafood industry, provide current information on a range of hot industry topics, and to experience a field day in the Tasmanian seafood industry.

The conference will be held Wednesday 18th September and Thursday 19th September 2002 at the Wrest Point Casino in Hobart.    It will draw together women from every state and Territory of Australia, who are involved in fishing, fish farming, fish processing plants, training, government, education and research amongst other areas.  Within the seafood industry, women work in their own businesses, as partners in a family business or as employees in a range of roles which include operating vessels, farming fish, deckhands, processors, managers, administrative and clerical work, training, research, governance, fish management, business management, and much more.

Conference registration will include a full day of interactive workshops and presentations, official conference dinner with guest speaker Russ Neal, CEO Australian Seafood Industry Council, and a day of industry tours.

Workshops will include; environmental scan of factors shaping the future of the Industry, national oceans policy and regional marine planning, simulated ocean floor tour, sustainability and biodiversity, national seafood standard, quality assurance and food safety, juggling family and business, conflict resolution-achieving successful outcomes, financial planning and budgeting, boards – getting on them and what is involved, and Farmbis.
