New Tasmania salmon brand name

The first shipment of farmed salmon under the Huon Tasmanian Salmon brand destined for Japan has been hailed a "significant step forward for Tasmania's salmon industry". The salmon, produced by the Huon Aquaculture Company, previously left the State under other company labels.

In a press release, Minister for Primary Industries, Water and Environment, Bryan Green, said the shipment was a positive point for an industry that had

been forced to negotiate some challenging times. "Tasmania's salmon industry underwent a major review last year, and that review was followed by the announcement of Tassal's financial difficulties."

The development of Huon Aquaculture's own labelling is seen as clear evidence of the company’s strong optimism for the future and the indications are that optimism is well placed. Tasmania has a reputation as a grower of clean, quality produce recognised internationally, and it does create a marketplace advantage, which the aquaculture industry will use to its advantage.
