The SEAfeeds workshop will bring together 30 invited expert delegates representing a wide range of interests in the aquaculture industry and associated areas of concern in open debate. In addition to helping policy makers and advisers to make informed decisions, the workshop aims to achieve areas of consensus regarding the sustainability of feed for aquaculture. Clear communication of current workfrom the aquaculture, fisheries and feed industries, food certification, and environmental and research organisations.  In addition to summarising current thinking and research on future sustainable feeds for the industry, the workshop will seek agreement on sustainability criteria, and consensus on some of the key areas of debate. The output should serve as a solid foundation for and discussion between stakeholders increases the likelihood that the debate will move forward in a constructive manner and identify according to a variety of sustainability criteria the best future policy for feed within the global aquaculture industry.

Providing a forum to facilitate these discussions between farmers, feed producers, environmentalists, fishmeal manufacturers, sustainability criteria experts and labelling /consumer organisations provides the best opportunity to achieve meaningful progress in the debate. This will also enable future research needs to be identified and provide an invaluable function in steering the aquaculture feeds industry in the future. more informed policy, strategy and decision making, on the part of government and the industry itself. It should also serve to highlight critical areas for further research.

Although the working group will be limited to 30 expert delegates, the organisers are keen to provide a forum for others to express views and opinions and follow the debate.
As a result there will be an associated Internet debate. Steering group members and key note speakers will kick off the debates and contributions from interested parties are welcomed. In addition the proceedings of the workshop will be published on-line.

The workshop will be held at the Stirling Management Centre on 8th and 9th April 2003. Further details on the workshop and access to the web debate can be obtained at http://www.nautilus-consultants.co.uk
