MANAGING YABBIES FOR PROFIT

The first one day course has been run in conjunction with the FarmBis program at Morwell by course convenor Tony Cohen from East Vic Yabbies. The participants were a mix of Gippsland Yabby Grower Association members and independent parties interested in the potential of yabby farming
The aims of the course were to generate interest in the profitable production of yabbies, to investigate the importance and implications of producing critical mass to meet existing demands for yabbies and to understand the importance of best practices in the growing and handling of yabbies for these markets.

David Morrison & Tony Cohen discuss the finer points of water parameters for growing yabbies

A range of aids were used including live yabbies, microscopes, videos, nets, water testing equipment etc and handouts included a very comprehensive yabby growers manual and relevant licensing information and forms.

Considerable discussion took place which showed the importance and need for such a course and the general feeling was the day proved to be a resounding success.

Inquiries about further courses can be directed to Tony Cohen, email address: tony.cohen@growfish.com.au
