Addressing a press conference here on Friday,
Biogenus India chief executive officer KS Reddy said
the projects include an aqua media plant — a feed for
shrimp farming — in Visakhapatnam and a technology
development centre in Hyderabad.
While the company has earmarked an investment of
$25 million in the aqua media project in Vizag,
another $10 million will be invested in the
techonology development centre, Mr Reddy added.
The company has also proposed to invest another $35
million in Karnataka in two different projects. While
the aquaculture research centre would carry an
investment of $24 million, another $11 million would
be invested in enzymes & cultures plant, he said.
While all the projects are expected to be completed
in the next two to three years’ time, the company has
proposed to raise the necessary funds from US AID and
US TDA apart from internal accruals, he said.
The technology development centre would take care
of commercialisation and localisation of Biogenus
technologies in India, helping enhanced production
through engineering processes, continuous research on
bacterial and viral mutants, developing enzyme
technology using natural variants and recombinant
bacteria, biofuel technologies using microbes,
development of customised micro-prep for various
remediation solutions, he said.
The company has also entered into a memorandum of
understanding (MoU) with Centre for Scientific and
Industrial Research (CSIR) to exchange their ideas,
technologies and expertise on Monday. Senior officials
of the company would be meeting AP chief minister N
Chandrababu Naidu in the next few days to explain the
company’s technologies and expertise in these areas,
Mr Reddy said.
Biogenus is the spin venture of the $500 million
US-based International Media and Cultures Inc (IMAC)
group, a pioneer in the field of food and enzyme
biotechnology since 1982.
