in Seafood Exports
|

SEAFOOD.COM NEWS by Ken Coons - March 21, 2003
Despite little increase in its aquaculture sector
because of disease and water shortages, India managed
to export 7% more seafood products for the last nine
months of 2002, compared with prior year. Exports
for the nine month period were 322,783 tons valued at
Rs 49.39 billion. This export value was up 10% over
the year-ago period, based on The Marine Products
Export Development Authority (MPEDA)report.
According to Asia Pulse, the chairman of MPEDA, K Jose
Cyriac, said that despite the provisional figures for
January and February this year that show a slight fall
in exports, overall seafood exports would reach the
target of Rs 60 billion (US$1.26 billion) which is
slightly above 2002. Total exports for 2002 were worth
Rs 59.90 billion.
The U.S. is India's biggest export market for seafood
followed by Japan and the EU. |
