The launch of the Strategic Framework for
Aquaculture is a positive commitment by the
Scottish Executive to a confident and
forward-looking direction for a vital Scottish
industry.
And Scottish
aquaculture deserves this recognition that it
can build on its success to date and, with a
proper framework, deliver ever-greater
benefits to all interests through
competitiveness, investment and
sustainability, Lord Lindsay, chairman of
Scottish Quality Salmon said today.
Speaking at a
the conference where the Strategic Framework
for Aquaculture was announced, Lord Lindsay
said tangible economic, social, and
environmental achievements from the
aquaculture industry are already in place.
He emphasised,
however, that investment is the key to
securing a progressive, sustainable and
successful industry in the future.
"The attributes
and benefits that all interests should be
determined to achieve cannot be delivered
without investment - and investment relies on
competitiveness, good governance and a sense
of national purpose.
"I am therefore
pleased that the investment made by the
Minister and his officials in the Strategic
Framework represents an important first step
towards a long term objective." |
