Aquaculture Development Officer
(VPS-3) East Melbourne
Position No. DPI 011015
The Department of Primary Industries (DPI) has an opportunity for a
suitably qualified officer to perform the duties of
the above position.
Duties
-
Assist in the implementation
of, and provide administrative support to, the
Aquaculture Startegic Policy and Planning Advisory
Group;
-
provide specialist input to
the development, implementation and review of
Statewide policies, strategies, guidelines and
management plans relating to aquaculture in
Victoria;
-
identify emerging policy
issues and assist in the development of appropriate
stratic responses;
-
provide authoritative
legislative and policy advice on commercial
aquaculture in response to enquiries by government
agencies, industry and members of the community,
including the preparation of reports and
correspondence;
-
encourage effective
information transfer by contributing to a close
working relationship with Government Agencies, R&D
providers, industry stakeholders and community based
representative groups;
-
assist in the development and
implementation of aquaculture policy and management
plans under the
Fisheries Act 1995
in accordance with legislation
and strict time lines; and
-
assist with other Program
related work as required.
The successful applicant must be able to demonstrate:
-
proven ability to provide
accurate, timely and authoritative advice,
preferably in a fisheries, aquaculture or primary
industry environment;
-
a thorough understanding of
the policy and legislative framework and processes
underlying fisheries and aquaculture management and
habitat protection in
Victoria;
-
well developed interpersonal,
written and verbal communication skills, including
the proven ability to consult, liaise and negotiate
on complex iaaues with Government agencies, senior
management, staff, community stakeholders and the
aquaculture industry;
-
knowledge of fisheries
management objectives, legislation, policy
development and the major issues relating to the
aquaculture industry in
Victoria; and
-
understanding of the business
planning aspects behind successful commercial
primary industry sector investment.
The succesful applicant must hold a degree or postgraduate degree in
science, or an approved diploma with major subjects in
natural resource management, particularly relating to
aquatic resource management, or agri-business
development.

$42,245 to $58,089. The position is fixed term for
three years commencing May 2003 to April 2006.
