The
University of the Philippines Aquaculture Society Inc.
and Cruz Aquaculture Corp. will hold the First
Philippine Aquaculture Congress and Exhibition (PACE)
in Bacolod City from May 7 to 10.
Touted as
the biggest technology event in the history of
Philippine aquaculture, the three-day congress will
convene more than 40 resource persons, 20 research
paper presenters and 30 trade exhibitors from the
fishery sector.
PACE 2003
will highlight an extensive range of topics in
mariculture, shrimp farming, processing and marketing
of fish products, and inland aquaculture.
Industry
leaders in aquaculture, like Alex Alcantara of Alaon
Aquaculture, Bob Gatualao of Philippine Shrimp, and
Dagupan City Mayor Benjamin Lim will share insights
during the opening program.
PACE 2003
will serve as a venue for leaders from the private
sector, research and academe, and government agencies
to discuss technologies and issues to promote a
modernized and sustainable aquaculture industry.
The
congress will tackle the latest developments in all
major cultured species and farming systems. These
issues are anchored on the congress’s goals of
improving farmers’ productivity and efficiency,
expanding markets for aquaculture products, and
promoting environmental sustainability.
PACE 2003
responds to the burgeoning aquaculture industry and
its enormous contribution to national food security.
The event
is supported by the Department of Science and
Technology through its Western Visayas office, and the
Philippine Council for Aquaculture and Marine Research
and Development.
