A decline in pricing in
2002 led to a reduction in the value of Australia's
seafood trade despite a 1.8% increase in production.
A total of 233,350 tonnes of seafood was produced in
Australia in 2002, but the total value of the
industry's produce fell by 0.8%.
Part of the rise in
production was the result of a boom in Australia's
aquaculture industry, which increased its output by a
healthy 3.5%, creating $A733m worth of product for the
year.
Export revenue for the
industry reached $A1.6bn, with the main markets for
produce being Japan, Taiwan, Hong Kong, the US and
China. |
