There have been numerous enquiries and comments received from all over the world and a large number of new subscribers. The Growfish website is now available in 9 different languages. It is worth noting that over the past month or so the Aquaculture Industry within Australia appears to be gaining momentum rapidly. Aquaculture has been prominent in the news around Australia and a number of Government projects have commenced to assist the industry to further develop.

Thank you to those who registered their interest in e-commerce facilities on the website. We are currently investigating the matter further and will advise the outcomes in the near future.

Growfish LOCAL ROUNDUP

Tony McLennan, Chairman of GAIN, has been appointed as Manager - Special Projects to the multi-million dollar Oceanair project at Wonthaggi following a restructure of the company. The project proposes to establish a fully enclosed saltwater recirculation system to house a hatchery and intensive grow out system for premium valued exotic prawn species.

"GAIN Meeting Highlights

The June 2002 general meeting of GAIN held in Traralgon featured 3 guests who all addressed the meeting along the theme of yabby farming in Gippsland.
Cate Walker of the Great Southern Yabby told of establishing a business under their multi water licence at Waratah North.
Les Cohen of Bairnsdale, another multi water licence holder outlined how he developed a one day course for potential yabby growers.
(see below)
Peter Lawson  from MaFRI gave a presentation on all aspects of the multi water licence system for yabby
farming.

"ONE DAY YABBY GROWERS COURSE"
Tony Cohen of East Vic Yabbies has gained certification for a one day course to be run to assist farmers and interested parties in growing yabbies. It is anticipated that FarmBiz will meet a part contribution to the costs of these courses. Anyone interested in attending these courses should contact GAIN info@growfish.com.au

The Eureka Project's long awaited statewide conservation and land management forum was held at Mt Beauty recently. One of the outcomes of these talks has resulted in Minister Garbutt agreeing to a visit to Gippsland to hold discussions with Gippsland Aquaculture Industry Network (GAIN) Chairman, Tony Mclennan.
GAIN has been outspoken on it's concerns regarding DNRE's support for Aquaculture development and this commitment provides hope of a breakthrough. Further information will be published on the Growfish website as it becomes available.

The next GAIN general meeting will be held on the 25th September 2002 at Traralgon and the guest speaker will be Richard McLoughlin - Executive Director of Fisheries Victoria.
This will be a great opportunity to hear about the State Governments role in aquaculture development in Victoria. Contact GAIN if you would like further information info@growfish.com.au  All Welcome!
