Villagers recapture cultivated fish swept away by Typhoon Morakot


 

Typhoon Morakot landed in Xiapu County in southeast China's Fujian Province Sunday, destroying houses and inundating farmlands.

 

Mudflat aquaculture in Yacheng Village of Xiapu County have all been inundated, farmers are trying to recapture fish flushed from mudflat aquafarms.

 

Those fishes were supposed to harvest soon, and a kilogram of the fish can sell more than 100 yuan. However, tens of hectares of the aquafarms are flooded, only hundreds of kilograms of fish are saved.

 

According to the local flood-control office, the county's aquaculture industry suffers great losses which has reached 61.2 million yuan (about 9 million U.S.dollars).

 

Meanwhile, 8 roads in the county had been cut off by rainstorms.

 

2000 villagers in the county were in danger and have been evacuated to safety.
