Barramundi farm to lure buyers

Newcastle developer Jeff McCloy has announced he is selling his Far Northern fish farm, Daintree Saltwater Barramundi.

A public marketing campaign has begun for the property, which covers almost 50ha on the Mossman-Daintree road at Wonga Beach.

The farm has been successful and has earned its owner several awards at the Sydney Royal Fine Food and Wine Show.

Mr McCloy is no stranger to controversy with a very public stoush with former Douglas Shire Mayor Mike Berwick three years ago.

The property is being marketed through Elders Rural Services Australia at Mareeba.

Elders rural property specialist Bill Denmark said the farm had council approval for an eco-tourism facility including a cafe, fishing area and a shop.

Mr Denmark said the position of the farm on the Mossman-Daintree road was suited to attracting tourists.

"It’s a bit early to gauge interest in the property," he said.

"It’s a very well presented property and one which should generate some interest.

"So far we’ve just advertised in an aqua-culture magazine."

McCloy Group spokesperson Louise McCloy said they had no plans to divest other Queensland assets, which are understood to include beachfront land at Wonga Beach.
