Earl to sue over lost fish
A Scots aristocrat is suing a council for £112,000 after poison killed 75,000 rainbow trout on his fish farm.
The Earl of Southesk David Charles Carnegie claims the fish died after a massive oil spill near his home at Kinnaird Castle.
Carnegie, who owns the 5800-acre Southesk estate, near Brechin, wants compensation from Angus Council.
He claims 1700 gallons of diesel oil leaked into the River South Esk after a botched delivery at Brechin High School, which is owned by the local authority.
A Southesk Trust estate spokesman said: "This incident dates back to 1999 and discussions are still ongoing."
Their claim includes £11,000 for lost sales and almost £9000 for fish that could not be sold.
The council said: "We are taking advice from our own solicitors."
